Dark City

Just watched the Director's Cut version of this Sci Fi Film Noir, that I learned to love so much since I watched in on the telly for the first time. Like 'The Shawshank Redemption' against 'Forrest Gump' this film had to compete with 'The Matrix' and therefore flopped. I don't mean to put the latter one down - it is a great film in its own right. But the crazy mix of Noir, the athmosphere of Casablanca, retro of different eras in modern human history and a bit of Blade Runner futuristic elements maybe - have made this film so unique. These are only a few genres and resemblances that I can think of. Maybe you can think of more?

Enjoy!

An homage to PG?

Skeleton Boy by Friendly Fires is a very catchy tune - and the video also seems to be an homage to that of Peter Gabriel's 'Sledge Hammer', in the end sequence when it all gets dark and all you can see is starlights and Peter's silhouette. I was hoping for the dancing chicken ;-)Enjoy!

You are a Shining Light

To listen to the song on youtube click here or on the image.

I woke up to this song as it was played on BBC2 Radio. With the repeating and straight forward statement "You are a Shining Light" the song seems to tell us to never lose hope/ belief in someone special, or it is simply a confession of love. Or maybe this song is about Jesus? I cannot really tell, but what I know is that I am in love with the melody line, and as usual Annie Lennox has an amazing voice!
However, it turned out that the song actually is by Ash. Both versions couldn't be more different, and like with Snow Patrol's Run and Leona Lewis' cover version of it, I cannot pick a favourite version of 'Shining Light'. And as for the videos, yeah Annie's video is funny, but not very original. And yes, under water music videos have been there en masse, but still I like Ash's video, too. And it fits the more rocky theme of his version:
